My Undergraduate Days #63 (Post-Commencement Madness.)

After two weeks of waiting, I finally managed to meet up with Sharon to take graduation photos together! Our first stop was Esplanade. Sharon was very wanted on Friday, because both me and Sibing (her Secondary school friend) wanted to take photos with her. Isn't Sharon adorable? Hahaha... With Singapura's landscape. On our way to see Mr Merlion, Julia broke down. Notice how irritated Sharon was... Miss Koh, the Social Work major, deep in thought. Hmm... Me and Shany. Thanks for coming, my dear!
Girlfriends from 33/02, AJC. Mr Merlion splattered salty seawater on Julia. Sharon and me, looking very natural with our hair flying in all sorts of directions.
Julia says that the real Raffles was short and fat.
Victoria Concert Hall, greatly missed by the CO people. Somewhere near Supreme Court. The idea of taking photos here came from me!!! Me! Me! Me! (Actually I was inspired by Xinli's photos taken in Europe.)
Sharon looked small here (please refer to the photo below).
It was a really hot day. But I'm satisfied because it didn't rain! If not, I won't know when I can have another common free timeslot with my Sharon to take our graduation photos.
Efforts in throwing my mortar board.
Oh mein Gott. Super not glam. :SThanks to Julia, my Personal Assistant of the day......who had to deal with my emotional needs and physical needs...
My gown is very heavy, you know...?

We were super tired at the end of it. Went to Mix and had juices with the girls! (I love The Soup Spoon too! :P) Alright, I've finally taken all possible wacky poses in my graduation gown. Time to return it and get back to reality.

P/S: My
Pre-Commencement Madness post has been updated. Take a look at some of the photos that I took with Kelly and Ming En in the Central Library if you're interested!

Anderson Junior College Alumni Concert- The Reunion.

Months ago, I heard that there would be an Alumni Concert. Wasn't so particularly interested until Julia mentioned it again. Anyway, I've been a loyal supporter of AJCO, because my dear friends are or were in it. Hopefully, they've been loyal supporters of AJChoir too. It was and still is always nice to hear positive comments about each other, encouraging to receive jiayou messages before SYF competitions, and comforting when you know you're not the only one who had three or four CCA practices in a week... aww, those times... So torturous, and yet so heartwarming for me to recall.

So I made a decision to step into AJC again for an Alumni Concert in our dear auditorium, which was (and still is?) infamous for its er-hem sound system. But still, our dear auditorium brought back loads of memories. The slideshow, which showed the constructing of our dear school and the days we had as JC students, made me cry at the ending of the slideshow and during the first few minutes of the first performance by AJCO (Alumni).

Didn't think that I will be so emotional if I set foot into AJC once again. Going back there with my JC friends did help bring the memories back vividly. We were so excitedly recalling the JC days- the places where we had GP mass lectures, Economics mass lectures, History lectures, the torturous but super hilarious PE days, the lame jokes both teachers and students will make, etc.

Going to AJC during my JC2 days were rather troublesome as I moved. But it was kind of fun, because I get to go home together with the west-side people, study on the trains or even sleep (and drool) on the trains.

Anyway, the performance was great. I love the AJCO and the choir parts the most. The mass singing part was hilarious and sounded like 歌台. It gave me an overall fuzzy feeling- was super encouraging.

I don't think I want to stay 17 forever (like how many people will wish to), because only by growing can we realise the sweetness of the process of growth in life... I miss AJ life, and that makes me treasure what I have now even more.

*

The familiar stretch of road that we used to walk almost every morning...
I AM BACK!Miss singing the school song, sitting in study area and wearing my tie every Wednesday...Cramming days were very much missed by me too.Our yellow and blue canteen, where we loved to flock to after our PE lessons for grilled fish or chicken chop. Yums!Beautiful mural done by Visual Arts Club that I loved (and still love) to look at whenever I pass by.Julia and me, at one of our MPSHs, where we had PE lessons and danced those mass dances after our examinations. Bleargh.
The PE grounds which reminds me of "I CAN SEE MY NOSE!!!", Great Leap Forward and Sky Juice.
坚持到底 was my life motto when I was in JC...
The oh-so-familiar auditorium...Me, Julia, Weishang and Julia's CO friend, Huiping.
The performing groups were AJCO, Dance, Guitar Ensemble, CLDS and Choir. Didn't take any photos of the dancers because they kept moving, haha.Singing in a casual manner and singing in the formal choir way, that is in a semicircle. If I can ever give up my tuition, I will go back to the Alumni AJChoir. Miss singing in a semicircle so much!!!A noticeboard nicely decorated with photos taken at different times of various AJCO members. See the suona picture and the words "suona rox" in blue (in the centre)? It's drawn by Xiuqin a.k.a Julia! Haaa. And all she had on her mind was Lijia, Lijia, Lijia. -super big pout-

Here's some short videos I took of the various songs sang.

Si-gu-lem-pong.
(the evergreen song sang by almost every batch of AJChoir- at least for my batch and the earlier batches.)

The moon represents my heart.
(actual name is a mixture of English and Chinese words)

A nice English song.

往事只能回味。

要拼才会赢。

The lead singer for 要拼才会赢 is from AJCO Alumni. He's good, eh? :P

Spicegirls.

I liked Spicegirls very much when I was in Primary 6. Can recall that when we were required to perform for special occasions like Teachers' Day, Children's Day or National Day, the boys will sing Backstreet Boys' songs while the girls will sing Spicegirls' songs, haha.
Scary, Baby, Ginger, Posh, Sporty.
Spicegirls in the 90s.

And whenever it comes to a band or group, we'll always identify our favourite member. Between me and my friends, it was a tie between Emma and Victoria. Cute old primary school days...

Spicegirls in 2007.

Currently, I'm searching for Spicegirls' songs. They bring back so many memories, and surprising, I can still remember how to sing their songs. This goes to show how big an impact they made. This is so cool!

My Undergraduate Days #61 (Of NUS.)

Great thing to do before Commencement: Reminisce... the NUS days...The place that I (probably) go to the most: Central Library. You can print your lecture notes or readings here, watch videos here, read readings here, snack here (legally in refreshment area only), study here, discuss projects here, gossip here, make free phone calls (albeit the phone is smelly due to unknown reasons), go toilet here (yes, there are times when I go to the library just to go to the toilet... for no particular reason, haa!)This is the printing room of Central Library, a place where I can stand for as long as two hours to print my readings. And the right most picture shows the last book I utilised as an undergraduate- Family Therapy. Quite a useful book, but unfortunately I could not finish reading it.The colourful seats that I always utilise as a meeting point for me and my friends. Asking friends to wait outside the library can be very irritating, given the recent climate of Singapore, so I love to ask my friends to meet at the colourful seats. And they look beautiful, don't they? The second picture shows our RBR bookdrop which can be pretty noisy when you return a book, heh.Below our library, there is Co-op bookstore, where we buy our stationery and snacks. It is also a place that I love to go when the weather is hot, or after lunches when we just want to jalan around and slack a while before settling down to study. Mr Lion, part-time model of Co-op.Right in front of Co-op is this area we call Forum, where I usually have project meetings. I kind of like the open-air-ness of this area. When a survey guy asked me if I want this place to turn into an air-conditioned place, I rejected that idea. It'll be totally different if it's air-conditioned.
And the nearest AS to the Central Library and Forum is my beloved AS6, which housed the departments of Social Work and Psychology. Unfortunately we have to move out of this AS soon. Urgh. I love AS6! Going to AS6 is like going back to my second home. :(
I can still recall that there was a mean senior who explained the method of opening the door in an irritated tone when I was in my first year. So impatient lor. AS6 is also near our temporary food place. The milk tea sold is from sachets, and I terribly miss the good old milk tea I always get from canteen. Engine canteen's milk tea is the next best alternative, but it's a little inaccessible. Boo. When is our Deck coming back...?
I am very proud of the ezlink top-up machine. :DAS5 and AS2 are the places which I am least familiar with.Had some of my Social Work lessons here in AS1, such as SW2103, SW3101, SW3202, etc.
Narrow corridor leading to AS4. I love walking here, haha, because by walking here, I don't have to climb an extra flight of stairs if I am going AS4 from AS1. :PAs4, where I had my German 1 and German 5 lessons.Familiar corridors.Familiar scenes.Familiar grounds.AS3 is my second favourite AS, because I had my German 2 and German 3 lessons here. Beautiful memories I had here with my German friends. Still can recall Elayne taking pictures of the two doors of the rooms that we go into for German lessons (refer to third picture in collage), and the times when we stand outside the rooms thinking of what to eat for lunch...As7, Jialing's favourite hang-out. If you can't find her, try going AS7, hahaha. There's a high chance you'll find her there. Anyway, I like printing stuffs in AS7, because Central Library's computers are so high in demand. Furthermore, a restrictive and troublesome log-in-for-only-one-hour thing was started not long ago, and as a result, I can't type my essays in the Library. There's this NUS internal bus, which I have this love-hate relationship with. Sometimes, you meet inconsiderate people who won't move into the bus quickly, or people who'll push you or step on you unknowingly... sometimes the bus will swerve so hard that you think you'll fall down... One interesting thing about boarding the bus to Yusof Ishak House (YIH) is that it'll stop on the slope. And during my first time boarding the bus, I couldn't really tell if the bus has stopped already, because it stopped on the slope. Feels a little scary at the beginning, but it's so iconic of NUS, haha. The scary slope. Notice the angle of the bus stop against the slope? The scary stairs. Reminds me of my fall only, damn it. Reminds me of my panting in NUS too. The good old bridge that I always make use of on rainy days (refer to third picture).Always feel that YIH is not as warm as FASS. I MISS SCHOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.........................
