RELIGION..a very sensitive topic I think..

Weber: Religion encompasses those human responses that give meaning to the ultimate and inescapable problems of existence-birth, death, illness, aging, injustice, tragedy, and suffering.

Durkheim: religion as a system of shared rituals and beliefs about the sacred that bind together a community of worshippers.

Three categories of religions:
Sacramental Religions: religions in whh the sacred is sought in places, objs, and actions believed to house a god or spirit.
E.g.: Native religions, Indian tribes..
Prophetic Religions: Religions in whh the sacred revolves around items that symbolize significant historical events or around the lives , teachings, and writings of great people.
E.g.: Judaism, Confucianism, Christianity and Islam.
Mystical Religions: Religions in whh the sacred is sought in stts of being that, at their peak, can exclude all awareness of one’s existence, sensations, thoughts and surroundings.
E.g.: Buddhism and Hinduism

And one very interesting thing..
“A Western woman may look on the cover-up Muslim hijab as a sign of sexual oppression. The Muslim woman (on the other hand) may look on the Western woman’s garb as the result of media pressures on her to display herself as a sex object for men.”

Well..did I say before Richard uncle is very critical towards Muslims? AHA! Can argue agst him le..i cant wait to talk to him and listen to his great tales..haha..
